It’s the Economy, Stupid… Again!

For those of you too young to remember, this was the catch phrase that Bill Clinton used effectively to beat the then incumbent president, George Bush Sr., in the 1992 presidential election.
Now 16 years later, a new election is upon us and once again, the country is in the midst of a major economic slump.
According to today’s NYTimes, “Both candidates plan to spend this week focusing almost entirely on the economy“, as well they should since it seems clear that the economy will once again take the forefront as a major issue for the 2008 presidential campaign.
Both McCain and Obama agree that Americans are hurting economically under the Bush Administration, what with job losses, rising rates of home foreclosures and gasoline prices inching up towards a five dollar a gallon price tag. Some experts say that $5.00/gallon is an inevitability regardless of who wins the election.
