Keep Truckin, Like the Do-Dah Man…

Well all of us will be truckin a little greener thanks to the EPA‘s and DOT’s recent rule establishing an historic National Program that will dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel economy for new cars and trucks sold in the United States beginning in 2012.
Environmental groups have sought curbs on greenhouse gas emissions, blamed for global warming for years with little success during the Bush administration. President Barack Obama, a supporter of this, said this rule marked a reversal “after decades in which we have done little to increase auto efficiency.”
Experts believe that the new requirements would add about $1,000 per new vehicle by 2016 but would pay back that investment within three years. The rule is expected to save more than $3,000 over the life of the vehicle through better gas mileage.
The combined EPA and NHTSA standards that make up this National Program apply to passenger cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty passenger vehicles, covering model years 2012 through 2016.
