Our History is our Strength – Celebrate Women’s History Month

This is the theme for this year’s Women’s History Month.

National Women’s History Month dates back to March 8, 1857, when female garment workers from New York City factories staged a protest over working conditions. International Women’s Day was first observed in 1909, following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. but it wasn’t until 1981 that Congress established National Women’s History Week to be commemorated the second week of March.

In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month. Every year since, Congress has passed a resolution for Women’s History Month, and on March 8th of this year President Obama proclaimed March as Women’s History Month.

The Census Bureau has compiled some statistics regarding women for this month’s celebration listing facts regarding women’s salaries, earnings, education etc.

Celebrate by taking the Women’s History Month Quiz. Good luck!
