September 17th is known as “Constitution Day” because it was on September 17, 1787, that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign and adopt the document they created, the U.S. Constitution.
The law establishing this holiday was created in 2004 with the passage of an amendment by Senator Robert Byrd to the Omnibus spending bill of 2004.
The act also mandates that all publicly funded educational institutions provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on that day.
In this spirit, try testing your knowledge of the Constitution by taking this Quiz on the Bill of Rights..
