And the Richest Member of Congress Is……….

MH900441325From California, Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, with a fortune of $355 million.  A fellow Republican, Rep. Michael McCaul from Texas, follows in  second place with a mere $101 million.

The Democrats hold the 3rd and 4th places with Sen. Mark Warner from Virginia ($88.5 Million) and Sen. Jay Rockefeller from W. Virginia ($83.8 Million).

Overall, the Republican Party has the edge on The Hill’s list of the 50 Wealthiest Members on Capitol Hill, with 29 of the 50 lawmakers coming from the conservative side of the aisle.

The Hill, a newspaper that publishes daily when Congress is in session, is written for and about the U.S. Congress, with a special focus on business and lobbying, political campaigns and other events on Capitol Hill.

For these rankings, the paper used financial disclosure forms covering the 2012 calendar year.  It added up the low figures in each value range for every asset and liability. Then, the sum of a lawmaker’s liabilities is deducted from the sum of his or her assets to calculate a minimum net worth.
